Born in 1959 in New Bern, Steve was the son of the late Guy Hopewell, Jr. and Barbara Coble Hopewell and the brother of late Beth Hopewell Revis. He is survived by his brother Guy Hopewell, III (Gail) and his three sisters, Cherie Taylor (Dave), Judy Gladden (Bill), Paula Nix, as well as several nieces and nephew.
Steve's life started off growing up on a farm in Jasper in West Craven County. His first job was priming tobacco at 8 years old earning enough money to buy his first motorcycle. That work experience was the beginning of Steve's entrepreneur spirit. During his teen years, the family moved into town in Trent Woods where his experiences changed to "life on the beach", golf, baseball, football, surfing and fun with friends. With that entrepreneur spirit and desire to work, Steve left school at 18 years old to pursue working with his father spreading lime and fertilizer at the Mattamuskeet Farms located in Hyde County, NC.
After several years, Steve moved to Greenville, NC and started his own business, Proline Glass Company. After several years, opportunities opened up and Steve moved to Atlanta, Georgia and then to Destin, Florida with cable television installation management/contractor. It was there that Steve fell in love with the white sand beaches and blue water of the panhandle.
Steve returned to New Bern to help his father again in the family business - Creekraft Marble working there several years. With Steve's experiences, he became the property manager for Highland Company's commercial and residential properties. Steve often expressed how much he loved all his jobs, especially working for Highland Company. The job allowed him to work in a different location each day, with meeting and helping people. Steve was a friend to all. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling, golfing, sports, snow skiing, boating, water skiing, surfing, politics, dancing, and having fun with friends, "All of the Above". Steve was also known for his sense of humor, such as when a person says thank you, Steve's response: "That's what I'm here for, one of the many reasons".
