

Alicia “Licha” Valdez Barrera, 69, passed away on April 25, 2015 at her home in Zorn, Texas just south of San Marcos. She fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She will be forever missed and loved by her husband, children, sister, and extended family.
Alicia was born on April 1, 1946 in New Braunfels, Texas to Estanislado Valdez and Nicolasa Cabarrivios. She is a graduate of New Braunfels High School. She had her first son, Carlitos Valenzuela, from a previous marriage. He passed away at four months old.
She met her husband, Roberto R. Barrera, at a dance. They were each other’s “Corazon.” They married in May 1980, and had two children, Roberto “Bobby” Barrera, Jr. and Marissa Barrera. Alicia worked at Luby’s Cafeteria in New Braunfels, and at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-New Braunfels.
Alicia loved watching professional wrestling ever since she was a little girl watching with her grandma. She also loved watching the San Antonio Spurs play on T.V. with her husband and daughter. She loved music and dancing. She loved her dogs Odie and Banjo and her cats Whiskers, Goldie, and Star.
She is survived by her husband Roberto R. Barrera of Zorn, Texas and son Roberto V. Barrera Jr. and wife Jennifer and grandson Roberto Colt Barrera III of San Antonio, Texas and daughter Marissa V. Barrera of Zorn, Texas; sister Delia Puentes and husband Jesus of New Braunfels; brother Juan Cardenas of Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her son Carlitos Valenzuela; mother Nicolasa Cabarrivios; father Estanislado “Tano” Valdez; grandfather Joaquin Valdez; grandmother “Mom” Dominga Valdez; brothers Joaquin Valdez and Estanislado “Tano” Valdez Jr.
Her memorial service will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 1 p.m. A private service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on a date not yet determined.
