Antonio Hernandez, age 94, of San Antonio, TX passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at The Waterford at Westover Hills in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to Fulgencio and Apolonia (Pola) Hernandez in New Braunfels, Texas on April 9, 1930. He is survived by sons David Hernandez (Jane) and Rene Hernandez, grandchildren Amanda Zars (Charles), Michael Hernandez, Mathew Hernandez, Christopher Hernandez and Susan Slovachek. Also survived by great-grandchildren Ava, Eli, and Ty Zars, Peter Hernandez, and Ember Valentine. He is also survived by a sister, Diana Urdiales and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Maria M Hernandez (Suarez), parents Romulo and Pola Urdiales, and siblings Pablo Hernandez, Amando Hernandez, and Rodrigo Hernandez. Antonio proudly served in the United States Marine Corps on a gunboat in China in the late 1940’s and then served in both South and North Korea during the Korean War with the 1st Marine Division. Continuing his military service, he was in the US Air Force from the early 1950’s as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief and then starting in the early 1960’s as a radar technician for air traffic control. While in the US Air Force he became a Vietnam War veteran and had assignments throughout the world until his military retirement in 1973. After military retirement he worked in the oil service industry in San Antonio and Houston which required him to travel extensively in North and South America. He supported Texas A&M University, the Houston Astros and Texans.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Zoeller Funeral Home from 9AM-10M, and a service with Reverend Jose L Munoz officiating at 10AM. Burial will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to thank staff at The Waterford at Westover Hills and Concho Hears Hospice.
