It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Blanca Lopez-Butz, beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, who left this world on May 17, 2025, at the age of 60. Blanquita, a native San Antionian, lived life full of Texas pride that she took wherever she went around the world.
From a very young age, Blanca’s childhood years consisted of traveling all of Europe and coast to coast across the USA with her family. Along the way, she gathered friendships that stood the test of time and were written into her story forever.
She had a deep love for life’s simple joys like playing softball, raising boxer puppies, admiring the bluebonnets in bloom, and spending time listening to music. She found peace in hiking and anything to do with water and beaches. Blanca was the life of the party, she made smiles happen anywhere she went. Her favorite memories? Late-night giggles, inside jokes, and cracking open a cold one on the porch with her ride-or-die crew.
Blanca began her adult career with USAA as a secretary from 1986-1991, where she was appreciated for her hard work and compassion.
Along her life’s journey, she met Jeffrey, and everything changed. After a 4 year courtship, and their marriage in 1991, his military career brought her back to Germany in 1992. There she prospered to be a secretary for the Department of the Army, which included Social Work Services, Veterinary, and Test and Experimental Commands until the birth of her twin girls.
In 2001, she was given her life’s most beautiful blessings, Julia and Jenna. She embraced motherhood, a path illuminated by the presence of her girls and filled with reflections on unwavering love’s deepest depths they provided.
Blanca continued to support Jeff’s service in the Army until he retired in 2006. They made their home in Bulverde, where she built a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her twins. Blanca lived deeply through the experiences of Julia and Jenna, their academic milestones, athletic pursuits, and the friendships they nurtured. With each success and challenges Julia and Jenna faced, she felt a profound sense of pride that went far beyond words. Proud is an understatement as she watched their journeys become intertwined with her own hopes and dreams that her daughters would be successful.
Scleroderma limited the full life Blanca had wished for. She didn’t just battle Scleroderma, she rose above it, inspiring everyone around her with her strength and resilience. Although this diagnosis challenged Blanca and took away some of the life she deserved, she faced it with incredible courage and perseverance, refusing to let it define her and kicking its ass every step of the way. With unwavering courage and relentless determination, she faced every obstacle head on, living each day with grace, grit, and an unbreakable spirit. Watching Julia and Jenna become strong, successful, beautiful women was her driving force.
Blanca will be remembered for her fierce love as a mother, her vibrant spirit, and the many lives she touched with her generosity, humor, and heart. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Blanca is survived by her loving family: husband, Jeffrey Butz; daughters, Julia and Jenna Butz; fur-grandbabies, Jace and Jaggerz Butz; brothers Henry Garcia, Rene Garcia, and Daniel Lopez; and cherished sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Sylvia “Momo” Lopez and Daniel “Popo” Lopez, and grandparents John “Pamper” Armacost and Blanche “Nanie” Armacost. She was deeply loved and will be significantly missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Zoeller Funeral Home (New Braunfels, TX). A procession will follow on Thursday, June 12th at 9:00 AM from Zoeller Funeral Home to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (San Antonio, TX) at 10:30 AM for committal services. Friends and family are invited to attend and share memories of a life well-lived.
