Brian P. Burke of Bulverde, TX passed away May 12, 2021 at the age of 79. He passed away at home peacefully after battling cancer. He was born in San Antonio, TX on October 16, 1941 to William Temple and Adelaide Burke. Brian was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dianna Burke; sons, Brian Burke Jr. and Kevin Burke; daughter, Shannon Long (Jim); stepchildren, Rick Shannon, Rhonda Gallaway, and Sabra Ballard; grandchildren, Patrick, Adam, Charlie, and Meagan Burke; and Isaiah and Samuel Gallaway; great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Kaylee, and Paisley; and brothers, Bill Burke (Mary Sue) and Bob Burke.
He inherited a lot of his father’s characteristic’s, resound in his convictions and could be honest to a fault. He loved telling stories of Texas, taking off when he got in trouble because he had to say his peace, hoping to gain solace and sympathy from his cousins in Goliad.
Brian attended Central Catholic High School where he maintained lifelong friendships. He appreciated his old buddies checking in on him and fun times at their reunions. Even through his many transfers with NCR, starting out in San Antonio, moving to Houston, Boston, Dayton, and Dallas and his second career with IBM which took him to Raleigh, he always made new friends along the way.
He was proud of his kids. He attended many football practices and every Friday night game and halftime show to see them all perform. Brian was known for sporting his Cowboy hat and shearling coat at the games, quite the sight in Massachusetts.
But he wanted to retire back in his hometown, where he and Dianna settled in for small town life in Bulverde. Here, they made friends with many of the neighbors, enjoying weekly gatherings for cocktails and sharing stories of San Antonio and times past. His neighbors were treasured friends, taking care of projects and repairs around the house when Brian was no longer able. He could be stubborn and was not a man to ask for assistance, but he never had to, his buddies just stepped up and helped in so many ways.
Whether it was riding his motorcycle, skiing at Medina Lake, hunting at the lease or golfing with friends, Brian did it with charisma. He was always a well-dressed man with that debonair smile.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 26 at 2:30 – 5:00PM at the Voight Center, 700 El Portal, Hollywood Park TX 78232.
