Carolyn Elsie (Brucks) Holte (nee Schriewer), age 90, died on Friday, April 13th, 2018, in the loving comfort of her family at her home in New Braunfels. She was born September 22, 1927, on the Schriewer farm in Geronimo, Texas, where she worked hard, rode to school daily on a horse, and learned to play the accordion. She was the second of three children, the eldest daughter of Herbert H. and Minnie M. Schriewer. She married George R. Brucks in 1947, with whom she shared 49 wonderful years. Together they raised five sons and two daughters. She enjoyed working as a bookkeeper with George and together they helped to facilitate the merger of Comal FCU with Randolph Brooks FCU. After the merger, she worked several years at the New Braunfels RBFCU branch. Carolyn loved to spend time riding horses and fishing at the Kraft’s ranch in Kendalia, playing skat and dominoes (42 and 84), and 9-pin bowling. She was also an active member of the Lutheran Church and regularly helped at the New Braunfels Food Bank. George passed away in 1997. In 2000, Carolyn married Dennis L. Holte and they enjoyed 18 wonderful years together. They loved going fishing at the coast, going on cruises, and traveling. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and it gave her endless joy to spend time with them and watch them play and grow up. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, sons Glenn Brucks and wife Isabel, David Brucks and wife Sydney, Alan Brucks and wife Judy, Donald Brucks and wife Dorothy, Robert Brucks and wife Tracy, daughter Conde Brucks and partner Ami Sewell, son-in-law Leslie Valentine, step-daughter Caroline Gruebel, sister Shirley Janke, and 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, George R. Brucks, her brother, H. Landis Schriewer, and her daughter, Patricia A. Valentine. Carolyn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a wonderful friend and she will be deeply missed. Family, friends and others whose lives Carolyn touched are invited to the Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St., New Braunfels on Friday, April 20th, for a memorial service starting at 2:00pm with reception there afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Hospice.
