Charlie Robert Smith

Charlie was born on April 2, 1922 in Coal, Missouri to Robert L. Smith and Lena Uhr Smith. Lena Smith married Ferdinand Jung, Sr. Charlie retired from the United States Air Force and the City of New Braunfels. Charlie Smith and Lillie Janca were married in 1968. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed family get togethers and was active in the church. Charlie married Rosa Lee Bowen in 2002.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pearl Bouler, Nettie Hilburn, Betty Eickenhorst and brothers, Alvin Jung and Egon Jung; son, Mark and wife Lillie Janca Smith.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Carol (Steve) Davis, their children, Scott (Sandy) Dasch and Zachary (Erica) Pierce; son, Gary Smith and daughter, Janera & sons, Chase and Samuel; son, David (Susie) Smith and daughters, Chelsea and Alyssa. He is also survived by step-daughter, Gloria (Ferdy) Jung and children, Shanna (Tommy) Mezik and Glenn (Karen) Jung and step-son, Robert (Glenda) Janca. Also surviving him is his wife, Rosa Lee Smith, her son, Kennard (Susan) Bowen, Jr. and her daughter, Roslyn (Robert) DePasqual. Charlie is also survived by his sister, Frances Townsend; brother, Ferdinand O. Jung, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Florence Jung and Sis Jung. Many grandchildren and step-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and their families survive Uncle Charlie “Popo”.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon Sunday at the Zoeller Funeral Home and continue until 12:00 noon Monday. Funeral services celebrating Charlie’s life will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2011 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 181 S. Santa Clara, followed by interment in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church; Hope Hospice of New Braunfels or the charity of one’s choice.
