Cindy was born on July 20, 1956 to MC and Josephine Cynthia Stiles and raised in Osceola, AR . She married Ray Grant in 1987 in Hillsboro, TX and called herself the “luckiest lady in the world” to have him by her side for 33 years.
Cindy also worked as a schoolteacher for 33 years in the Dallas, Hillsboro, Corsicana, and Nacogdoches ISDs. For 28 of those years she was a Special Education teacher and was dedicated to helping all children succeed. She was known for working overtime to create individual lesson plans to help each of her students succeed.
In 2012 Cindy retired to become a full-time grandmother to her two granddaughters, Isla and Georgia. They were her favorite students and the light of her life. Lovingly known as “Boo,” she cherished the special time caring for her granddaughters, sharing life lessons, doing crafts, puzzles, and more. In the last two years she enjoyed tutoring at Fabra Elementary in Boerne and helping more children, known as Ms. Boo.
Cindy’s family will remember her as a fierce and independent woman who loved her family with all that she had. In her battle with metastatic breast cancer, she was brave, courageous, and tenacious to the very end.
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ray; daughters, Leigh Owen (Daniel) and Lara Grant (Andrew MacLaren); granddaughters Isla and Georgia Owen; and four older brothers: Joe, Marcus, David, and Nelson Stiles.
A private memorial service will be held on January 2, 2020 at the Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne, TX. The service will also be available via Zoom. Upon Cindy’s request, friends and family are asked to wear an old hat in fond remembrance of her love for antiques and unique finds.
