Elroy Ben Seeger, 83, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015. Elroy was born on May 20, 1932 in Karnes City, Tx. After graduating high school, he joined the Army and served his country in the Korean War. Returning home, Elroy married Ruby Hedtke on October 20, 1956. They moved to San Antonio where he worked in construction and at a chemical company before finding his true calling. In 1965, Elroy accepted the position to work at Gary Job Corp. Center in San Marco, Tx. His mission there was to help young adults receive a second chance in life by teaching them a trade. Elroy instructed students on how to operate heavy equipment. There was not a piece of equipment made that he could not operate. Over the next 30 years he helped mentor students in many other trades. After retiring in 1995, he continued his hobbies in gardening and doing repair work for his family and throughout the neighborhood. Elroy proved he had a true “green thumb” by receiving multiple awards for Master Gardener of New Braunfels. He will be remembered for being a great husband, honorable father, and a wonderful mentor. Papa’s motto was, “If I can’t grow it, you don’t need to eat it” and “If it’s broke and I can’t fix it, it was junk anyway.”
Elroy was preceded in death by his father, Elmo Seeger; mother, Albina(Jansky) Seeger-Rossow, and step-father, Richard Rossow. He is survived by his sister, Mamie Nell Henke; children, Terrell Seeger and wife Stacey, Jerry Seeger and wife Kelli, Jim Seeger, Bob Seeger and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Jennifer Schultz and husband Brandon, Lyndee Seeger, Mikaela Seeger, Troy Morris and wife Rachel, Jesse Seeger, Shelby Seeger, Devin Seeger, Reese Seeger, Jaiden Seeger, Jeff Seeger and wife Kelly, Scott Seeger and wife Adriana; great-grandchildren, Tanner Schultz, Addisyn Schultz, Shawn Morris, Analise Seeger; and numerous nieces.
