Frank H. Murray, Sr., was born August 8, 1928, in Alpine, Texas, and departed this life on July 19, 2022. He enlisted in the U.S. Army branch of the military on July 7, 1948, attending the Medical Field Service School at Fort Sam Houston where, upon graduation, was recognized as one of three Honor Graduates in the class. He served as medic in combat in the Korean War before being Honorably discharged from service on August 15, 1953, when he married and began raising a family.
He had a passion for airplanes and began with building and flying model planes. Later in life, he fully embraced his passion for planes and obtained a pilot’s license and began flying and building full scale airplanes. He obtained a FAA Aircraft Mechanic Certification allowing him to certify his planes for flight. He built five planes and loved every minute of crafting the planes to perfection. His planes were admired because of his meticulous attention to detail.
Frank maintained a fierce independence throughout his life, not wanting to be a burden on others. He retained a thirst for learning throughout his life and enjoyed discussing carpentry, construction, engines, planes, aerodynamics, astronomy and the cosmos.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonifacia “Bonnie” Murray, and his father, August Leander “Lee” Murray, his siblings, Nora Lee Galgani, George “Jack” Murray, Aline Ruth, Lee Murray, David Murray, Edward Murray and Johnny Murray.
