On February 2, 2025, surrounded by family, God called to her eternal home Gladys Martha Anna Bischoff Rust. Born on January 12, 1931, to Clara (Rasche) and Otto Bischoff, Gladys was baptized on February 15, 1931 at Holy Cross Ev. Lutheran Church (U.A.C.) where her family were charter members. Gladys was raised in New Braunfels, TX with her older brothers, Albert and Edward Bischoff, attending Cross Lutheran School and the public schools of New Braunfels. She confirmed her baptism on May 20, 1945, which activated her faith life of love, family, kindness, laughter, and care for her neighbors. Following WW2, she became engaged to Egon W. H. Rust on Valentine’s Day, and they were married on August 22, 1950 until his death in 2002. They raised two sons in New Braunfels, experiencing the adventures and changes of life. Gladys worked in sales and bookkeeping at Plaza Drug, Kraft Firestone, Comet Hosiery, Motorola, Opa’s House, OHI, and Comal Drug.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers, sister-in-law Liz Bischoff, daughter-in-law Mary Rust, and other beloved family. Her legacy lives in her children Mike and Libby Rust, and Dennis Rust; her grandchildren Bryan Rust, Jennifer (Jason) Lee, Dawn Rust, Andrew (Raquel) Rust, and Matt (Taylor) Rust; her great-grandchildren Emma, Brianna, Clara, Nicole, Keith, Everett, Ella Jay, and Samuel; her sister-in-law Elsie Bischoff; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. The family will receive guests at a visitation on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Zoeller Funeral Home. A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Cross Lutheran Church, 2171 Common St., and her burial will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, with a reception following at the church.
In her memory, the family invites contributions to Cross Lutheran Church Debt Fund, Hope Hospice, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Her family thanks Hope Hospice who helped care for Gladys in her last days. We believe she was the best mom, Nannie, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. Gladys trusted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. For her, life is changed, not ended, because God’s love never ends.
