

Gordon P. Brown, 95, took his last flight on September 17, 2015. A veteran of World War II, a member of the 450th Bombardment Group, 47th Wing, United States Army Air Corps, 15th Air Force; Tech Sergeant Brown was a B-24 Top Turret Gunner and received numerous military honors. Gordon was born on November 22, 1919 in Newport, KY to Gordon P. & Laura S. Brown and half sister Katherine Steele. After a long career in civil service, he retired and moved to New Braunfels in 1984 where he purchased and restored what is now his 102 year old home. Many hours and much love were put into building a gazebo and moving the wash house on his own by rolling it on beer bottles and then converting it to a Sunday house. This is where he enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Gordon was blessed by the special friendships of Wilfred Weinheimer & Barron Schlameus, Dennis & Jane Quein, Roger, Tish & Chris Scow, and Angel Ledesma. He was a 65 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post 179. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra E Decker and Laura Jo Fletcher (spouse Sloan Smith) whom he shared with former wife, Patty Jo Brown. Grandchildren Heather Materne (spouse Juan), Garrett Stephens (spouse Alison), Justin Fletcher (spouse Ann Claire), Aubrey Jo Ramirez (spouse Rene). Great grandchildren Haleigh Arellano, Marina Arellano, Evan Materne, John Warner Fletcher and niece Annabelle Steele. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Shoemaker Brown; and her son, Gerald Owen Shoemaker. As well as survived by step sons, Harold Scott Shoemaker and Ted Ryland Shoemaker (spouse Phyllis). The family would like to thank all of his special caregivers and recognize; Babette Chapman, Lupe Garcia, Mark Garcia, and Mandy Reed Adams. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Zoeller Funeral Home with Inurnment to follow in Guadalupe Memorial Park.In lieu of flower donations, the family has requested that any memorial contributions be given to Hope Hospice in honor of the loving care Gordon received.
