Although born in Tulsa, he spent his childhood in San Antonio, Texas. In Texas he grew to love water sports, hunting and fishing. Scott always looked up to his uncles, including Joe Marks who was instrumental in his growing love for the outdoors, teaching him the finer points of shooting, fishing and “Duck tape repairs”. Scott attended Churchill High School in San Antonio where he played Clarinet in the band and Lettered as a Defensive Back for Charger Football. The family moved to Austin and Scott Graduated from Austin High. Impatient to create his future, he enrolled in University of Texas, Austin pursuing a B.S. in Geology. He decided to join UT Navy ROTC as a Marine option to fulfill his youthful dreams of action and adventure. After graduating with his degree in 1972, he earned his full Officers commission in the United States Marine Corp, obtaining the rank of First Lieutenant Infantry Officer at the age of 22. Always proud to serve, he was able to attend jump school and aerial observer school where he was trained to call in Naval Gunnery support for Marines in the field.
As he was training and working as a Marine, he found time to get married and start a family. Scott loved his new wife and son, excited to begin this new chapter, he resigned from the Corp after fulfilling his 4-year commitment. The family moved to Houston where Scott started a job in sales for Texas Instruments, learning the basics of IT sales and excelling in this new profession. He wanted to advance his career, so he enrolled in the MBA program at University of Houston. He worked two jobs while earning his MBA, pushing hard to create the life he was destined to fulfill. Life continued for him and his son despite the tragic death of his beloved wife Patricia. He cared for his son in Arlington and Houston, ensuring his progeny was properly raised to manhood.
Scott always worked very hard through triumph and tears caring for all those he loved without regard for himself. After many years alone, fate had a wonderful surprise in store for him. Scott met the love he had been missing in Houston at a dance lesson. Bonnie thought he was an excellent dancer and that began a tour of country music dancehalls around south Texas. It was fate; they discovered early in their dating that their lives had intertwined through the years. They had gone to junior high school together in San Antonio but never met. They lived within a few miles of each other in Houston and their sons knew each other and had gone to school together from elementary through high school. There were many coincidences that eventually brought them together. “Someone had a hand in it, long before we knew” – Tracy Byrd, “Keeper of the Stars”. Scott and Bonnie were married June 14, 2001. Together they built the life he had dreamed of and longed for. At 50 years old Scott attained the goal he had set for himself so many years ago. He was married to the woman he wanted; they built a house together on the lake with a boat, Jet Ski and all the toys. His first granddaughter was born; he had it all. He worked hard and deserved those dreams. Scott spent the last 25 years of his life reveling in the joy he had created. He loved his wife and his family. He loved his lake and the toys. He SUCCEDED!
Scott spent many years as a Project Management Professional with various companies in the technology field and retired from the IRS in 2025. He was very active in the Preserve Lake Dunlap Association (PLDA) and served on its Board of Directors for several years. Scott was instrumental in rebuilding the Dam and protecting the lake he loved. He wanted to ensure that Lake Dunlap was a place where family and friends could gather to enjoy our "little piece of paradise".
Scott was a warrior and philosopher, a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He found great joy in his family. He was endlessly proud of his sons and grandchildren. He loved spending time with them. His face lit up when he spoke of their accomplishments, their personalities, and the happiness they brought into his life. He had a zest for life and loved entertaining friends and family at home on Lake Dunlap. Scott always wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to play on or in the water. He spent as much time as possible going on hunting and fishing trips or just heading to the beach to relax in the sun and sand while reading a good book.
We take comfort in knowing that he is now with our Lord, held in eternal peace and surrounded by God’s love.
A memorial Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 31,2026 at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas.
