Jane was born on December 2, 1934 to Claude and Julia Kinard in Dallas, Tx. After graduating from Gainesville High School in 1953, she went on to study English at Baylor University and received her Masters from the University of Houston.
In 1955, she met Larry “Rex” Rexilius while attending Baylor University, and they wed in 1957, going on to have 2 wonderful children, Cynthia (Cindy) and Rex. Both Jane and Larry were counselors in Cape Cod at Camp Good News.
After graduation, she landed her first job as a school teacher in Waco, soon after that they moved to Houston and she continued her teaching in south Houston. She then worked as a 2nd Grade teacher at Mrs. Wagner’s School in Houston, and later became the director/owner in 1978. She sold the private school in 1998 and stayed in Houston a few more years before moving to New Braunfels, Tx.
Jane and Larry were married 66 years. She loved her family, especially her husband, and they enjoyed sitting on the front porch in New Braunfels watching the golfers and waving to people who walked by. Jane loved her children and her grandchildren, visiting with friends, and enjoying their relatives in Texas and Illinois.
Jane was an avid painter and a member of the orchid society, as well as memberships in the African Violet clubs in San Antonio, Boerne and Houston. Jane truly loved her African Violets and at one time was the President of the Lone Star African Violet Association. After she retired and moved to New Braunfels, she continued with her violets and also began making homemade greeting cards. Jane had a witty personality about her and loved to make people laugh. She also was known to bake her famous pound cake for family and friends. She loved her hobby room where she made her greeting cards and loved taking care of her African Violets. She was loved by her family, cousins and her many friends from her days at Mrs. Wagner’s School, the African Violet Clubs and her Stamping/Card making group. We will miss her greatly.
Jane was predeceased by her father Claude Kinard, mother Julia Kinard and sister Suzanne Linker. She is survived by husband Larry, daughter Cindy and Darryl Starr and their sons David and Michael, and son Rex and his wife Michelle, and their children Megan, Shayna and Cameron. They attended Oakwood Baptist Church in New Braunfels Texas.
A memorial service will be in the Pavillion around the backside of the church, on December 2nd, 2023 at 1:00 pm with a remembrance at 1:30 pm.
