Deirdre is survived by her husband Hamish, son Ewen Charles, daughter-in-law Kim, daughter Maureen Jessie Watson, son-in-law Wayne, granddaughters Katy and her husband Forrest, Heather and her husband Tony, Blythe and her husband Wil, Kelly, grandsons Ryan and John-Paul, and great grandchildren Ian Hamish and Niels Aaron, Audrey Gail, Georgia Blythe, and James Patrick.
Deirdre was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on July 30th, 1936. She was educated at Laurel Bank School, Glasgow, and Morrison’s’ Academy, Crieff, both schools in Scotland.
Deirdre followed Hamish to Canada where they married in Calgary and where both Ewen and Maureen were born. Deirdre, Hamish and family enjoyed Canada and a lot of friends were made there. However, Hamish’s career turned overseas and the next three decades were spent, packing, moving and unpacking. Nine years in Libya where the children started in the American Scholastic program which took them through their school lives and eventually onto American colleges. Deirdre and Hamish enjoyed sailing, the Caledonian Club and all the other many social events which took place on Campus in Marsa el Brega. Assignments followed in Houston, Surrey England, and Norway. Deirdre was always proud of being an “at home” Mom and helping Hamish further his career. Deirdre was the prime parent during the Cobham, Surrey, England years as Hamish was primarily assigned to work in Scotland. This meant that Hamish was away most of the time but Deirdre and the children loved Surrey and the City of London. The assignment in Norway, was such a happy nine years where Deirdre and Hamish enjoyed sailing the fjords and orienteering through the hills of Norway. Eventually, Hamish was assigned back to Houston and at that time, Deirdre took Granddaughter Katy under her wing, while Katy’s mother, Maureen was training for Law Enforcement, Hamish ended his career with Exxon but did consultant work for a few years and so they both enjoyed the house they had purchased in San Marcos. A further move took them to The Hills of Lakeway where Deirdre enjoyed being close to and around her grandchildren.
Deirdre’s final days were so very comfortable and easy in The Pinnacle at Eden Hill, New Braunfels together with New Braunfels Presbyterian Church, she made many new friends.
A Memorial Service for Deirdre will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at New Braunfels Presbyterian Church, 373 Howard St, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
