

He was born November 19, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Francis and Elnora Claycomb. On , November 26, 1967 he married the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Claycomb, who survives him.
Hallmarks of his life include being a retired United States Air Force veteran (1966–1986), a retired United States Postal worker, president of the SBOA, a baptized and confirmed Christ-centered Lutheran, and, most importantly, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
John loved spending his time watching sports, notably the Indiana Hoosiers and the San Antonio Spurs. He enjoyed heckling his son during Chiefs vs. Raiders games, as he was an Oakland Raiders fan. He loved taking motorcycle rides through the Texas Hill Country, and he even enjoyed a good fashion show.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Elnora Claycomb; his brother, Richard Claycomb; his many cousins from Lafayette, Indiana; and his three children, Brian, Scott, and Beverley Claycomb.
He will be forever loved and missed by those who survive him, including his wife, Bonnie Claycomb; his grandchildren, Matthew and Tanya Claycomb, Ryan and Kaitlin McKinnie, and Ashlyn Henry; and his great-grandchildren, Braylon, Beckham, and Briar McKinnie; Camilla, Cole, and Quinn Claycomb; and Rory Henry.
Services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, Tx on Saturday, March 7th, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. The service will be officiated by Jake Fain. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
