He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Sandra Perron, granddaughter, Ashlee Perron, great-grandson, Rylan, and Joseph’s sister Bernadette Perron. He is preceded by his wife, Janice, and daughter, Givonna. Joe was a decorated WW II veteran stationed aboard the USS Princeton serving in Japan, China and North Africa in the 1940’s and was recognized by the Secretary of the Navy for his contributions to the U.S. Navy’s guided missile program in the 1950’s. He was onboard the USS Essex off Cuba in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, as the country teetered on the brink of nuclear war.
Joe was involved in anti-submarine warfare aboard aircraft carriers in the 1960’s, having served during his career as an aircraft mechanic, pilot, and as a senior aircraft maintenance officer. During his 28-year naval career, his family traveled the world from Hawaii to Newfoundland and Japan, including multitude locations across the United States. Upon retirement from the Navy, Joe was employed by the Ford Motor Company in senior production management for their engine manufacturing facility in Lima, Ohio. Joe retired to New Braunfels, Texas in 1981.
Over the past thirty five years, he was involved in the New Braunfels community in numerous volunteer organizations and Oakwood Baptist Church. Joe, a devout Christian, was a dedicated and loving husband and father.
Memorial Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at the Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St., New Braunfels, Texas 78130, followed by the burial at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Due to floral regulations at Fort Sam, the family has requested donations be made to Kindred Hospice.
