Lester joined the Navy Reserves in 1955 at the age of 18 where he proudly served our Country for eight years. He then enrolled in the Police Academy. After graduation he became a member of the New Braunfels Police Department. Years later he joined the Comal County Sheriff's Department. Lester’s final job was being elected twice as a Comal County Constable. In 1974 Lester was shot in his abdomen and shoulder while answering a call for a loud party at Canyon Lake. The deputies that answered the “officer down” call ended up arresting more than 100 that night. Lester made a full recovery and ended up serving Comal County for over 30 years.
Lester married Dolores Elley on April 22, 1956. They were married at the Methodist Church in New Braunfels. They were married until she passed away in 1998.
Lester and Dolores had three children: Linda, Larry and Vonnie.
Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and motorcycle riding. In 2005 he rode across the country to Washington state with his son-in-law David. Lester read many of Louis L’Amour books and loved watching old westerns. He also enjoyed playing the trumpet. He played with the western swing band, The Hightoppers, and the “Oompah” band, The Cloverleaf. Lester still rooted for the Dallas Cowboys even though most of the time it was painful. Lester and Dolores traveled to many places, including Germany twice, Colorado, and Hawaii.
In 2001 Lester married Stella Gohlke. They had over two decades of happy years together. Stella’s family accepted Lester as one of their own. He loved all of them, especially the grandkids, and they loved him back.
