

Manuela (Espinosa) Acevedo, cherished mother and grandma, was called home by our Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the remarkable age of 80. She married Tomas Acevedo, Sr. in May of 1950. They made their home in New Braunfels where they raised their eleven children. She dedicated her life to them and instilled numerous family traditions to carry on. Manuela was known for: her faith in God, volunteer work at her childrens’ schools, playing bingo, taking pictures, cooking tamales, gardening, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, her sense of humor, loving Tweety Bird, enjoying catfish, and was a true blue fan of the Mighty Unicorns.
She spent her younger years cooking alongside her mother, Epolita Espinosa, at Kountry Kitchen in Sattler, Texas. She was a member of the Guadalupana Society of Our Lady of Perpetual Help church and served as the president from 1991-1995.
She was born on December 25,1932 in Sattler, Texas to Elias and Epolita Camareno Espinosa. She is preceded in death by her husband and sons, Jose, Tomas,Jr. and Paulino, her parents, two infant siblings, sisters Crucita Quiroz and Julia Ramirez, and brothers Alvaro and Johnny Espinosa.
Survivors include children Guadalupe (Ester), Miguel, Reynaldo (Francine), Yolanda A. Solis (Jimmy), Martha A. Rodriguez, Oscar, Marcie Martinez (David) and Linda A. Torres (Silvestre), twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great-grand children. She was the eldest sister to Gregorio (Sarah), triplets; Lucia Tamez (Fidel), Maria Uballe and Luiza Espinosa, Alma Sanchez (Mario), Ignacia Mojica (Beto) and Rosie Carrillo (Jimmy). Additional survivors include sisters-in-law Amparo Gonzales and Josie Franco.
Her family would like to thank the following people for their compassionate care: Dr. Gerald Snyder, Dr. Stephen Carey, Christus-Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels, New Braunfels Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, Kirkwood Manor, Close To Home Adult Day Care, Ms. Yolanda Gamboa and Diana of MedTeam and many others.
Visitation will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 beginning at 3:00pm for Manuela’s children and grandchildren. Viewing for extended family and friends begins at 5:00pm. A rosary will be recited at Zoeller Funeral Home at 7:00pm and viewing will end at 9:00pm.
On Thursday, October 31, 2013 viewing will resume at 8:00am at Zoeller Funeral Home. A funeral procession will leave at 9:30am from Zoeller Funeral Home for a mass at 10:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in New Braunfels. Burial will take place immediately following at Comal Cemetery located at 422 Peace Ave.
Please join the family to celebrate her 80 years of life with a reception immediately after the burial at the VFW located at Peace Ave, New Braunfels, Texas 78130. Feel free to bring your favorite dish and share your memories of Manuela with loved ones.
