Maria G. Ortiz, 87, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Monday, June 30, 2025. She was born to Epifanio Gallegos and Cecilia Perez Gallegos on October 23, 1937, in Mission, Texas.
Her unwavering faith in God, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, Tia, and friend to many. Maria along with her family were sharecropper and did not finish school, but that did not deter her from being and doing everything she could to make her family succeed. Maria worked at Mission Valley Mills, McKenna hospital (food service) and retired from HEB (deli).
Maria was always happy being around family, she was a source of wisdom, offered unconditional love, encouraged all of us to do our best, and often impart valuable life lessons. She had a beautiful smile that was so warm and inviting and reminded everyone how much she loved each and every one of us.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosalinda Ortiz, son, Humberto Ortiz (Sylvia Farias); daughter, Hilda O. Trejo (David); daughter, Irma O. Gonzales (Arturo Martinez, Jr.); grandchildren, John H. Ortiz (Rachel), Lauren Farias, Bianca S. Trejo, David Trejo, Jr., Robert E. Gonzales, Jr. (Andrea) and Gabriel E. Gonzales (Ingrid Henriquez); great-grandchildren, Jayden Gonzales, Elizabeth Ortiz, Alena Ortiz, Olivia Ortiz, Zaylee Hughes, Avery Farias, Everly Tristan, Xaiden Nieto, Natalie Nieto, Aaliyah Gonzales, Xavier Gonzales, Xander Gonzales, and Legend Gonzales; brother, Alfonso Gallegos, sisters, Carolina Esqueda, Beatriz Perales, Inez Lugo and Janie Eggert. Numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, extended family and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Apolinar Ortiz; sisters, Amalia Esquivel, and Rebecca Perales; and brothers, Rodolfo Gallegos, and Epifanio Gallegos, Jr.
Public Viewing and Visitation will begin Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Zoeller Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 138 W Austin St, New Braunfels, TX 78130 with Reverend Benoit Fidele Ramanandraibe, MSF – celebrant. Interment will follow in Comal Cemetery. Pall-bearers are: John Ortiz, Robert Gonzales, Jr, Gabriel Gonzales, David Trejo, Jr. Jayden Gonzales and Ricardo Ortiz, Jr.
