

Michael was born in Peoria, IL to parents Douglas Winters and Loretta Colgan on March 2nd 1947. He went to school in Peoria, IL. He married Karen Absher on October 14, 1978 in their home of Peoria, Il . He graduated from University of Illinois. He worked as a Veterans Benefit Coordinator for the State of Texas for many years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and served in the Army. He was in Who’s Who Among Students in America Junior Colleges, and received highest honors while he received his bachelor degree. He earned multiple certifications in a wide range of fields.
Michael was preceded in death by Father, Douglas Winters, Mother, Loretta Colgan, and Stepfather Jerry Hornbacker.
Michael is survived by his wife Karen Winters, son Jeffrey Winstead and his wife Janna Winstead, daughter Jody Winstead, brother Patrick Winters, sister Tere Winters and her wife K.T Winters, and brother Tony Winters and his wife Catherine Winters, and 5 nephews and 3 nieces, grandchildren Brandon Winstead and significant other Danielle Stelec, Megan Winstead, Christopher Winstead and wife Jessica Winstead, and granddaughter Tamara Jeffreys and her husband Wayne Jeffreys, Great Grandchildren Jacob Winstead, Noah Lash, Mark Stelec, Natalie Stelec, Caden DeVall, Zackary Jeffreys, Braxton Jeffreys, and Alayah Jeffreys, his beloved dogs Duke and Lilly.
Pallbearers will be (son) Jeff Winstead, (great-grandson) Caden DeVall, (grandson) Brandon Winstead, (grandson) Christopher Winstead, (son-in-law grandson) Wayne Jeffreys, (Great grandson) Jacob Winstead, and Honorary Pallbearers (great-grandson) Zackary Jeffreys, (great-grandson) Braxton Jeffreys.
Visitation will be at Zoeller Funeral Home Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 5-7 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:15 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of Zoeller Funeral Home.
