

Nobia Ruth Stephenson passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at her residence in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 95. Ruth was born in Mississippi on February 26, 1920 to Rasmus and Laura Read. She married the love of her life, Horace G. Stephenson on November 7, 1943 in Houston, Texas.
Ruth’s husband gave her a sewing machine early in their marriage that began a lifelong love of sewing. She made most of her children’s clothes, dolls and doll clothes. She also made hundreds of children’s aprons for her daughter’s kindergarten students and for children all over the world through mission trips. She made wheelchair bags for veterans, and was busy making bibs for the “elderly” shortly before she suffered a stroke on Sunday, September 27, 2015. Ruth {Grandma Honey) also loved fishing and if the grandchildren could go that made it even better.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 61 years, Horace G. Stephenson and all of her 10 siblings. Survivors include daughter, Cynthia Pickett and husband Robert of Seguin, Texas, son, Michael Stephenson and wife Elizabeth of Richmond, Texas, and son, Ronald Stephenson and wife Barbara of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren, Christopher Pickett, Deborah Pickett, Jeffrey Stephenson, Sarah Stephenson, Laura Garfias, Terri Zamirski, and David Stephenson; five great-grandchildren, Kayla Pickett, Riley Pickett, Daniel Zamirski, Benjamin Zamirski, and Kadence Stephenson.
A Visitation will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2015 beginning at 5:00pm and will continue until 7:00pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11:00am at Zoeller Funeral Home, with Interment to follow at 1:00pm at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be given to Hope Hospice.
