

Ofelia “Fela” T. Gutierrez, 83, of New Braunfels, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Christus Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels. She was born to Arturo Torres and Maria Torres on March 12, 1931 in Lockhart, TX.
Ofelia Gutierrez was a dedicated and devoted wife (64 years), mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver. She was actively involved in the upbringing of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passionately supporting and following their endeavors - music, sports, gymnastics, as well as career choices.
Ofelia loved to sew. She was an excellent seamstress. In 1961 she became co-owner of The City Bakery and successfully managed the family business. During these 22 years she became an extraordinary quincianera and wedding cake decorator, sang in the church choir 15 years, and among her many interests had a love for mariachi music. Ofelia's life was truly a blessing lovingly caring for friends and family. She will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard “Lalo” Gutierrez; daughter, Teri G. Zepeda and Oscar Puente; son, Bernard “Bernie” Gutierrez, Jr. and wife Irene; daughter, Gracie G. Juarez ; son, Rene Gutierrez and fiancé Flor Gallardo ; grandchildren, Roy Saenz, Jr. and wife Sharon, Jo Ann Saenz, Ashley Babbitt and husband Andrew, Kayley Gutierrez, Bernard “Bernie” Gutierrez, III and wife Rebecca, Brandi Juarez and Pablo Sotomayor, Alexio Gutierrez, and Mia Gutierrez; step grand-children, Sebastian Garza and Galilea Garza; great-grandchildren, Sara, Zacarry, Mason, Maddix and Noah; step great-grandchildren, Analysse Sotomayor and Pablo Sotomayor, Jr.; one great-great-grandson, Elijah; sisters, Diamantina Moreno and Maria Irma Gutierrez; and numerous nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Anita Silvas, Aurora Garcia, Ernestina Torres, Dora Scarnato, and Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” Flores.
Public Visitation will begin 5:00 PM Monday at Zoeller Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM when the service departs the funeral home in procession to the church. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Reverend Camillo Botello, MSF – Celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum. Pall-bearers are: Bernie Gutierrez, Jr., Rene Gutierrez, Bernie Gutierrez, III, Roy Saenz, Jr., Zacarry Saenz and Arturo Torres; Honorary Pall-bearer, Alexio Gutierrez.
