William Gary Henrichs, age 71, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, surrounded by his immediate family. He was born on September 4, 1953, in Pasadena, Texas, to William "Bill" Gerhard and Algreta '’Tot'’ Hemichs. Gary’s family moved to Moulton, Texas when he was in kindergarten, later relocating to New Braunfels, where he completed high school. Gary had a passion for sports, excelling particularly in baseball. He was a four-year letterman on the varsity team at New Braunfels High School. He went on to attend Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, where he majored in Criminal Law. Gary served a distinguished 41-year career as a police officer, working in Victoria, Texas, Beverly Hills, California, and ultimately retiring from the Austin Police Department. Throughout his career, he was known for his dedication to the law and his compassionate service to the community.
Gary had a zest for life that shone through in all that he did. His love for his family, his career, and his walk with the Lord were at the center of his life. While working in Victoria, Texas, Gary met his first wife, Dianne, and together they moved to Beverly Hills, where they raised their children. After retiring from the Beverly Hills Police Department, the family moved to Wimberley, Texas, where Gary continued his service with the Austin Police Department.
When not on duty, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, helping his wife and daughter care for their horses, which Courtney competed with in various events. Gary had many passions outside of work, including music, maintaining his vehicles in pristine condition, fishing, and spending quality time with his family and friends. He shared many fond memories with his best friend Bob Hoyer, recounting their many adventures together.
After the passing of his beloved wife, Dianne, Gary found love again with his second wife, Lacy. They shared a wonderful life together, traveling, dancing, and enjoying each new chapter. Gary’s courage and strength during his battle with ALS were matched only by Lacy’s unwavering care and support as his devoted wife.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lacy Henrichs of Georgetown, Texas; his daughter Jacline Henrichs of New Jersey; his son Weston Henrichs (Stephanie) of Liberty Hill, Texas; his daughter Courtney Booth (Shaun) of San Marcos, Texas; his grandchildren, Deacon and Harper Henrichs, and Grayson Booth; his sister, Patsy Wotipka (Sam); nephew Erich Wotipka; niece Emilie Wotipka and their children; as well as his stepchildren Michael Pawlik, Christe Raney, Kacee Barry.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, caregivers, and loved ones who supported Gary during his battle with ALS.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at Oakwood Church in New Braunfels, Texas, on February 12 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association.
