

She was born Feb. 17, 1936 in Solarino, Sicily to the late Paolo and Giuseppina (Oliva) Burgio. She graduated and attended School in Italy. Moving to New Britain in 1955 she resided in New Britain for 47 years, before moving to Farmington with her sister Connie & husband Pasquale & nephew Danny. Mrs. Riggio was employed by Corbin Russwin retiring in 1997 after 41 years. She was a parishioner of St. Ann Church in New Britain.
She was devoted to her family, making them laugh and always available for guidance. She enjoyed traveling, fishing and spent most of her time with her friends & family. She will be most remembered for being a very caring, loving & strong independent woman.
On behalf of Carmela her family would like to thank Jan, her home healthcare aid, for taking great care of her and the staff on N5 & Hospice at the Hospital of Central CT for their care and compassion that was given to Carmela and the family.
Carmela will be dearly missed by her sister Connie Calafiore and her husband Pasquale of Farmington, CT. Her brothers Sebastiano Burgio and his wife Iole of Siracusa, Sicily. Paolo Burgio and his wife Maria of New Britain, CT, Corrado Burgio and his wife Janice of Kensington, CT, Salvatore Burgio and his wife Margaret of Plainville, CT. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, aunts and uncles, both in the US and Italy. Predeceased by: Nephew Daniel Burgio and Niece Linda Burgio.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday Feb. 6th 9:00am at the New Britain Memorial – Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Ann Church, 101 North St., New Britain. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
