

Eugene J. Autunno, 84, widower of Myrtle (Gilbert) Autunno, lifelong resident of New Britain, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Hospital of Central CT. He was born in New Britain and was son to the late Peter and Carmella (D’Amore) Autunno. He attended local schools in New Britain and had been employed as an assembler at New Britain Machine for 27 years and then as a maintenance mechanic at AGC Inc.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church as well as active in the GAS House Gang and the Hi-Comps Car Club of New Britain and a Nascar enthusiast. He owned and built race cars, and raced car #81 and #4X at Tinty’s Stadium, Plainville for several years.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by; a son, Peter Autunno Sr. of Plainville, a daughter Juliann Lapollo and her husband Vincent of New Britain, a brother, Julius Autunno of West Hartford, a sister, Mary Roderick of Avon, four precious grandchildren; Peter Autunno Jr., Jody Autunno, Vincent Lapollo Jr.,& Andrea Lapollo, six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his best friend and companion, Daisy.
Eugene was also predeceased by two brothers: Ludwig and John Autunno, three sisters; Theresa Panarella, Virginia Alderuccio and Anna Flynn.

Funeral services will begin Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 9:30am from the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain followed by the funeral liturgy at 10:30am in St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation hours will be Friday, March 22, 2013 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Assoc. and National Kidney Foundation.
