

Born on April 10th, 1928 in New Britain, CT, son of the late Levio and Ada (Terni) Bessoni, George lived his early years working for the family business, Bessoni Brothers, alongside his three brothers and father. From the 1930s, Bessoni Brothers was responsible for developing hundreds of buildings in the Greater New Britain and Hartford counties, which still stand today.
In the mid 1980s, George and Patricia Bessoni moved to Old Saybrook, CT, with their children, where they established Bessoni Builders, LLC. George and Patricia embarked on several large-scale residential developments and soon became one of the largest General Contractors in the Shoreline area. Most recently Bessoni Builders was recognized with an architectural design award for its outstanding design and construction of the 90 Ingham Hill Road industrial development.
George is survived by his three sisters, Pauline and Helen Bessoni of Newington and Ann Smoloski and her husband John of New Britain. He is also survived by his sons and their wives: George Jr. and Barbara of Old Saybrook, Gary and Debbie of Santa Maria, CA, Glenn and Sharon of Southington, Geoffrey of Middletown, Gregory and Tara of Santa Maria, CA, and daughter Dawn and husband David Waida of Old Saybrook. He will be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren: Brenda, Bonnie, Kyle, Jason, Ashley, Michael, Chelsea, Daniel, Brittney, Peter, Ethan, Ella and Emelia. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Macayla and August, and many nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his daughter Samantha Thompson, three brothers Frank, Raymond, and Louis as well as his sister Mary Machiewicz.
Those who knew George would agree that he was filled with love and laughter, was strong and true, yet gentle and sensitive, with a passion for his family and his work. George’s giving had no bounds. His life was rooted in honesty, integrity, and a faith that family and friends could conquer all.
A private viewing for family will be held on Friday November 23, at 8:00 am at New Britain Memorial/Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home,444 Farmington Ave., New Britain. All are invited to a mass of Christian burial at St. Ann’s Church on North St. in New Britain at 10:15 am.
