He grew up on Edmonds Road in Sherman, CT, the site of his family dairy farm. Henry was an active member of the Boy Scouts eventually reaching the rank of Eagle Scout.
He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. He transferred to and graduated from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, becoming the first in the family to do so.
He was employed by Union Carbide in Danbury until its relocation out of state.
Since Henry first became an Appalachian Trail boundary monitor in 1982, he lived and breathed the Appalachian Trail in Connecticut. Henry had filled almost every Connecticut AT Committee role, including Chair from 1993-1996. He served as Overseer of Trails from 1992-2012, then became our Overseer of Lands, where he revitalized our Natural Heritage activities and successfully spearheaded the efforts to improve the abundance of an endangered species of butterfly in the Connecticut AT corridor. He hiked and backpacked throughout the Catskills, New England, and Alaska and the Wind River Range. He was also an active volunteer with the AMC New Hampshire crew. Henry received AMC-CT's first "Lifetime Achievement Award" and in 2021 received the NPS/ATC Presidential Service Award. His knowledge of the history of the Trail in Connecticut was encyclopedic. He will be missed by his fellow volunteers in Connecticut and beyond.
He was predeceased by his parents Anna (Steinert), and Morris Edmonds. Henry is survived by his sister Mary Stack of Boston, MA; his cousins Petra DeMauro of Wingdale, NY, and John Johnson of Athens, ME.
A gathering of friends will be held at a later date. Also, please see www.dignitymemorial.com.
