Jane Alice (Christensen) Hagen, 92, beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, and wife of the late Robert Hagen, passed away on September 7, 2014 at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington after a brief illness. Jane was born in Derby, CT on January 1, 1922, to her parents, Neils and Christine Christensen. She is survived by her four loving daughters: Barbara Bailey, and her husband Steve of Barkhamsted; Beverly Harrison of Salem SC; Virginia Babcock and her husband, Jay, of South Glastonbury and Allyson Rittenhouse and her husband, Steve, of Meriden. Jane will also be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren, David and Douglas Kohlun, Taylor and Wesley Harrison, Christine and Charlie Babcock, and Andrew (AJ) Rittenhouse, and four great-grandchildren.
Jane met her husband, Bob, in Lordship, CT and soon after began their 68 years of marriage in nearby Stratford. As a result of Bob’s career with General Electric, they relocated their family to several places around the country, including upstate New York, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia, before retiring to Meriden, CT. During these years, Jane was a devoted housewife and mother. She eventually returned to work and held various retail and bookkeeping positions, before retiring from Student Accounts office at Wesleyan University in Middletown.
Jane’s interests included cooking, exercise class, playing games, music, boating and travelling. She had a sense of adventure, and loved exploring the country with her family in one of their many RVs, before she and Bob settled and spent winters in Stuart, FL. Jane was especially happy there, soaking up the warm sunshine, going to the beach and enjoying the tropical foliage.
Recently, Jane moved to Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville, CT where she continued to live independently and with much enjoyment. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Mulberry Gardens for providing her with their support and love.
