

John "Jack" C. Nixer, 85, husband of Gloria (Bosco) Nixer, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026. He was born May 3, 1940 in New Britain, CT to the late Walter and Stella (Michaels) Nixer. After graduating from Berlin High School, he attended E.C.Goodwin Tech post grad for mechanical drafting. After working at Pratt & Whitney and New Britain Machine for many years as a tool designer he found his dream job as a carpenter with the maintenance department of Consolidated School District of New Britain until his retirement in 2004. Jack was a lifetime active member of the Elks Club #957 where he proudly served on the Waiters Committee, the Investigation Committee, and the Veterans Committee. However, he found his calling dressing as Santa for the annual Elks Children’s Christmas Party, also at St. Paul’s School in Berlin. He was a retiree member of AFSMC Council 4, as well as a member of St. Jerome Church.A true “jack of all trades, master of some,” Jack was skilled in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, home repair, auto maintenance, and much more. He took great joy in sharing what he knew with his children and grandchildren, always encouraging their curiosity and independence. He also proudly served as a Cub Scout Den Leader, where he enjoyed mentoring young Scouts. He loved woodworking, often building furniture, model cars, and puzzles, and had a lifelong passion for hot rods and railroads. An avid reader and fisherman, he cherished time spent fishing—first with his father and later with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling throughout New England with Gloria and their children.
Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife Gloria, of 56 years, he is survived by his daughter Jeanna DiPinto of New Britain, son Michael (Donna) Nixer of Southington, grandchildren Steven and John Nixer, Victoria DiPinto and Thomas DiPinto Jr, and a cherished great-granddaughter Daisy Nixer He is also survived by a brother-in-law; Joseph Bosco (Kathie Lewis) of Southington, and a niece Nicole (Joe) Barone and their children Ava & Ella.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain CT 06053 on Wednesday, February 4,2026 from 3-7pm. Members of Elks Lodge #957 will be present to perform the Elks Ritual Service at 5:30 pm, followed by a celebration of Jack’s life at 6pm.
