Maryann Biella, 78, beloved wife of John Biella, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, January 10, 2026. She was born on August 27, 1947, in New Britain, the daughter of the late Alexander and Ann (Zicardi) Caiazza.
Maryann attended local schools and was a proud graduate of Central Connecticut State College, where she earned a degree in English. She went on to build a long and successful career in banking. Beginning as a bank teller, Maryann’s strong work ethic, attention to detail, and natural leadership enabled her to steadily advance through the ranks. Over the years, she held positions of increasing responsibility and ultimately retired from Bank of America as a Regional Manager, where she was well respected by colleagues and customers alike.
Maryann was a devoted member of South Congregational Church in New Britain, where she especially cherished her Wednesday Bible Study group and the friendships she formed there. She was a lifelong lover of animals and wildlife and shared her home with more pets than she could count. Maryann cared deeply about all living creatures and could often be found feeding the birds and squirrels around her home. She had especially close relationships with her cats over the years and leaves behind her beloved rescued cat, Lucy.
Above all, Maryann loved her family and treasured time spent together. She took great pleasure in being involved in her children’s schools and activities, including Brownies, Girl Scouts, and the school Mother’s Club. She especially enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings, delighting in bringing everyone together around the table. Maryann was known for adding thoughtful, special touches to every celebration, making each gathering feel personal, welcoming, and memorable.
Maryann was a generous and caring person, giving freely to the people and causes she cared about. She loved reading and was especially fond of British television series, often enjoying a good book or a favorite program during quiet moments at home.
In addition to her husband of over 50 years, John Biella, Maryann is survived by her two daughters: Lynn Biella and her husband, Michael Chiloyan, of New Britain, and Susan Linker and her husband, Mitchell, of Bloomfield; as well as a special aunt, Bette Buzanoski.
Relatives and friends may visit at the New Britain Memorial–Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, on Thursday, January 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Maryann’s funeral will begin on Friday, January 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at South Congregational Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain.
