Richard “Butch” Gomes, 71, of Newington, CT, passed away at Hartford Hospital Saturday, July 7, 2018.Butch was born on December 30, 1946 in Middleboro, MA to William Allen and Mary (Lopes) Gomes. Butch was a very special compassionate person. He joined the US Marines Corp at age of 17 and upon his return became a Licensed Electrician for Northeast Utilities where he worked until his retirement. His passion in life was Golfing, good cuisine and most of all the love for his dogs Tessie and Bella. He was often found riding around the golf course with Tessie. He was a great entertainer and cook. His steaks and burgers could feed a small army, but he insisted that was the only way to eat. Butch spent most of his time with devoted friends, Carroll Sneed and Bill Meredith. Butch is survived by his two sons Eric Gomes and wife Joane Gomes and Christopher Gomes. He was most proud of his two grandsons, Williams Gomes and Benjamin Gomes and their quest for sports. Butch was one of seven children and is survived by his brother Michael Gomes, his sister Patricia Montero, his sister Mary (Dena) Martin and her husband Ralph Martin all of CT. Butch was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Gomes, his sisters, Marilyn A. Willis and Doris Gomes and his brother Billy Gomes. He also leaves half-sister Susan Gomes, half-brothers Kenneth and Billy Gomes of MA. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss him. He loved his friends and had many including Joyce Walk who has Bella the other half of his heart. A Life Well Celebrate Service of Butch’s life will be on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11am in the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain. Calling will hours will from 10am to 11am. A burial service will immediately follow in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Foundation.
