

Robert P. Gaffney, 82, a lifelong resident of New Britain, died October 28 after a short illness. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Marjorie Hitchcock Gaffney. He was the son of the late Patrick J. Gaffney and Mary (Bukowski) Gaffney. Mr. Gaffney was a graduate of Bryant University and was employed by The Travelers Insurance Company until his retirement in 1992. He was a charter member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church. He served in the U.S Navy in 1945 and the U.S. Army in 1950. A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he leaves his children, Margaret (Meg Gaffney) Deguzis and her husband Edward of Newington; Patrick and his wife Anchalee of Alexandria, VA; Michael of Charlottesville,VA; Peter of Feeding Hills, MA; Paul and his wife Susan of Newington; Mark and his wife Christine of New Britain, his beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Taylor and Andrew Deguzis and Matthew, Megan, Kaitlin, Jessica, Brian, Paul Jr. (P.J.), Kelly and Leah Gaffney, and great-granddaughter Claire Elizabeth Gaffney. He is also survived by his brother James of Ocean City MD and Jupiter FL, his sister and brother-in-law Jean and Stephen McGuigan of Old Saybrook CT and Jupiter FL and his sister-in-law Ann Lowell of Southbury CT. Calling hours will only be on Sunday October 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington, Ave., New Britain, Directions ( Exit 37 off I-84 take a right at the exit 1 ½ miles on your right) Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday November 1 at 10 o’clock at Saint Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
