At the age of 18, Bob proudly entered the United States Navy, where he served for six years as a signalman. His time in the service was a source of pride that he talked about regularly throughout his life.
After his military service, Bob built a career as a draftsman with General Electric, where he worked for nearly 20 years before retiring. He was known for his strong work ethic and quiet reliability.
Bob was married three times. He had three children with his first wife (Joan Baillargeon McBain), and though that marriage ended in divorce, his role as a father remained an important part of his life. His second wife, Roberta Tomlinson McBain, and third wife Jere Greene, both predeceased him.
A lifelong animal lover, Bob had a special place in his heart for dogs. Over the years, his canine companions brought him great joy and constant companionship. He was also a musician learning to play the violin (which he liked to call a fiddle), tuba and bass. He played bass in the Connecticut All-State orchestra while in high school and he was the bassist in many bands throughout his life.
Bob lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, for more than 20 years, where he enjoyed a slower pace of life. In early 2024, he returned to Connecticut to be closer to family. He was a tough individual who beat cancer, heart disease, and was a recovering alcoholic.
He is survived by his three children (Robbin Williams, Timothy McBain and Lisa Butler), their spouses (Jim Williams, Pepper McBain and Michael Butler), seven grandchildren, and eight grandchildren all of whom will remember him for his quiet/quirky humor, and enduring love.
A private family ceremony will be held on February 11.
