Andreas Yiannakou Timotheou died on April 19, 2025 at the age of 91 years old, after many years of suffering with multiple sclerosis and dementia. He resided in Airmont, N.Y. up until almost the last 3 years of being in a nursing home. He was born on February 17, 1934 in Karavas, Cyprus (now Turkish occupied northern part of island). His parents were Yiannakos and Elpida Timotheou.
He came to America in the 1960's and lived with his late brother Alex Yiannakou in Nyack, N.Y. , where he became a barber and opened up his own barber shop there in town. He then went into the construction business, with a close family friend specializing in drywall, and then went into partnership with his other late brother Christos Timotheou. Afterwards, he went into business for himself and was self-employed.
Work didn't allow him much time for hobbies, and he was a very simple man, but he enjoyed watching & attending Yankees baseball games with his family, and kept up with current events by reading the good old-fashioned newspaper. He'd make a special trip to the convenience store if it wasn't delivered for the day! When he retired and before his MS, he worked diligently to maintain his 3/4 acre yard, that used to be an apple orchard, and that his father-in-law had started from planting several trees and a garden that had everything from corn all the way down to strawberries. Sundays, he enjoyed barbequing at home for the family. He and his brothers made the best chicken marinade, and he took pride in and put love into slow-cooking with his charcoal grill.
He always had a smile on his face and put his family first. Everyone described him as having a sweet demeanor, with a constant, unforgettable, animated smile & laugh, one of the kindest souls, never spoke a harsh word, joyful disposition, great person/man, glad he was a part of their lives, always appreciative, affectionate, wonderful human, Mr. T, gentle, remarkable, the best, and definitely an angel now.
He is survived by his wife Maria (Lambropoulos) Timotheou, daughter Elpida Venetos, son-in-law George Venetos, granddaugher Athena Venetos, sisters Anastasia (Stasoulla) Eftychiou & Maria (Maro/Marilou) Stylianou, many nephews, nieces, extended family, church family, and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Eleni (Elou), brothers Timotheos, Thrasos, Vasilis, Alexandros, & Christos, and predeceased by his daughter Constantina (Dina/Tina) who died from leukemia in 1989.
