Anna M. Wettje (nee Lyons), of Bardonia, NY passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2026 at the age of 93 just a few days shy of her 94th birthday. She was surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born on February 19, 1932 in Manhattan to Michael and Anne Lyons from County Mayo, Ireland.
Ann spent most of her childhood in County Mayo before returning to New York, where she met her husband, Walter at a CYO dance. She was a devout founding member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, where she served as a eucharistic minister, representative to the Rockland County Vicariate, president of the Parish Council and Ladies’ Guild, member of the Right to Life committee and Altar Society. Ann found great joy volunteering her time and cherished the many friendships made at St. Francis.
She especially looked forward to Presentation Sunday, her own personal Super Bowl, when she was able to serve tea and crumb cake to the nuns and brothers of Rockland County. Ann also volunteered with the Nanuet Ambulance Corps in the 1970s. For more than 40 years, Ann was a cherished and devoted member of the Clarkstown Central School District community.
Ann loved to quilt, knit, and sew and always had a work in progress. Ann spent her lifetime hosting and making memories at her Dew Drop Inn, where all were welcome for a cup of tea and a good chat. True to her love of a great adventure, “she’s on the road again.” Ann was known to many and loved by all.
Ann is predeceased by her husband of 63 years Walter Wettje, her sister Kathleen Scanlon, and her brother Michael Lyons. Ann is survived by and will be greatly missed by her five children, Walter Jr. (Francine), Michael (Nancy), James, Anne Marie (Mario Ottaviano), and John (Christi), her grandchildren, Megan (Brendan Fennell) and Jennifer, Melissa, Sean, and Jessica (Ben Leckie), Jason and Samantha, Christine (Matt Pucila), Robert (Kaitlyn) and Joe Ottaviano, and her six great grandchildren Connor, Kieran, and Brigid Fennell, Jack Leckie, Thomas Pucila, and RJ Ottaviano.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 18th from 4pm - 8pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 19th at 10:00am, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
