Anthony "Tony" Bruno

NEW CITY - Anthony “Tony” Bruno, 85, of New City, NY passed peacefully on November 4, 2022.

Born March 27, 1937 in Valle dell’Angelo, Campania region of Italy, Tony emigrated to the US arriving March 21, 1956 in the ports of New Jersey. He began life in the US as a mason in NYC, & quickly found his way to barbering. His first barber chair was in the Empire State Building, in NYC. Tony met the love of his life, Maria, they married in 1964, and began their life together in Teaneck, NJ. Tony co-owned his first Barber shop in Teaneck,and then settled in Valley Cottage NY, taking over the Kings Highway Barber Shop, a/k/a Tony’s, which he purchased from his father-in-law, and ran for more than 50 years. Tony came to know many families within the Rockland community, some for several generations, and would fondly share stories of his time with their family members.

Tony loved the outdoors, his favorite pastime being time spent in his garden and took pride in his lawn. His greatest joy was his family. In addition to his wife Maria, Tony is survived by his 3 children, Anthony (Lisa),\ Mark (Pia), and Lisa, and his 8 grandchildren, Corey, Gabi & Becca, Alyssa, Anthony & Nick, Melina & Gabe, & Tony’s siblings Elma, Flora (Silvio) & Ivana (Vincenzo), sisters-in-law Zina, Concetta, brothers- in law Phillipo, Santo, Joe, and John, & many nieces & nephews. Tony is predeceased by his sisters Melina, Lidia, Angelina & brothers Arturo & Frank, brothers-in-law Vito, Vittorio, sisters-in-law Rosa, Josephine, Norma &Debbie.

The family will receive visitation Wednesday, November 9th from 3-8 p.m. at Michael J Higgins Funeral Service, 321 S. Main St., New City NY 10956. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 10th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul & St. Ann’s RC Church, 82 Lake Rd., Congers, NY 10920.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tony’s memory to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence, 415 Buena Vista Rd, New City, NY 10956.
