
Anthony Cauchi "Tony " of New City died May 24, 2011. Born in Hamrun, Malta where he married his childhood sweetheart, Frances Ciancio. He served in the British Army in WWII in Artillery. He immigrated to the USA in 1952 and eagerly became a US citizen. He is predeceased by his wife Frances, their oldest daughter Anna, and his youngster daughter Lucia Cauchi Carosella. He is survived by his daughter Maria Cauchi Sweeney, and son Joseph Cauchi, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was manager of a soda bottling company "Purtanier" in Malta. Then he was employed by Mobil Oil Corporation thirty years plus, living most of his life in Mt. Vernon, NY.
"Tony" worked tirelessly for the Bingo programs of Our Lady of Victory Church, St. Ursula, Mt. St. Michael, and St. Augustine, New City, NY. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at both Our Lady of Victory and St. Ursula Churches. For many years he participated in the bowling league of Our Lady of Victory. While still in good health he volunteered in the Meals on Wheels Program in Mt. Vernon, NY and at the NY Healthcare program of New City. Baseball and football were his favorite sports, always rooting for the home teams.
Visiting will be held today from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Higgins Funeral Home New City, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday 10 AM at St. Augustine's Church New City, NY. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Valhalla, NY.
