Barbara Pestone passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025 at Joe Raso Hospice, with her sisters at her side.
She was 71 years old, and lived the last 23 years at an ARC residence (Hobart House) in New City, the town in which she grew up.
Barbara’s life at Hobart House was filled with love and laughter. She danced often and attended many joyful activities. She was nicknamed Bobbie by the staff and sometimes called Princess for her imperious ways. Although she was non-verbal in her later years, Barbara made her wishes known with her expressive big brown eyes. The wonderful staff cooked her favorite foods and cared for her with great compassion, played her familiar music and found so many ways to keep her happy. She also attended a spirited day program where she did arts and crafts, shared celebrations, and enjoyed camaraderie with her housemates and peers, who always looked out for her.
Barbara’s twin sister, Lorraine, passed at just three years old, creating a void that could never be filled. The promise of Barbara’s future was altered but throughout her life she was given every opportunity for growth and happiness by her parents Lee (Angela) and Lou Pestone who loved her beyond words. Barbara’s sisters, Lenore, Carol and Dorothy participated in her care, helping her with reading and life skills and playing together. She loved going to the beach at Wildwood Crest, singing songs with the family and playing with her dog JoJo. Friends and neighbors included Barbara in many gatherings and activities which helped her have a full and fruitful life.
