Beauclerc Anthony Daly, “Beau”, was born on October 24, 1940 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, West Indies to Jerome Vincent and Violet Isabelle (Speid) Daly. He was the youngest brother of Patrick and Valerie. Beauclerc was a country boy. He and Pat took care of their cows, goats, and chickens before school and bedtime. Beau shared funny stories including the few times he had to retrieve the cows that wandered into the cemetery at night, of all times! He would hear noises and while speedily getting the cows out of the cemetery, he said “Gwey Duppy!!” Beau graduated from Cornwall College and had multiple jobs in Jamaica including working at the Bauxite plant with his father and at the Casa Montego hotel.
In 1962, Beau and Pat came to the United States. Beau lived in Queens and worked various jobs in New York City. In 1966 he got a job with the United Nations (UN) working in the Library Department. The name Great Pops D was given to him by his Jamaican and other Caribbean coworkers from the UN.
There was a true sense of community among his coworkers who were more like family and friends, and they often enjoyed Friday nights playing Dominoes. Beau had an amazing singing voice and used that talent as part of the UN Singers who traveled through the world. His last and fondest trip was to Japan, and he remembered and kept in touch with the sponsor families he stayed with after he returned home. Beau retired from the UN in 1996 after 30 years of dedicated service.
In December 1970, Beau attended a house party in the Bronx that changed his life for the better! He met his beautiful future wife, Alsie Fay Scott. After a little more than a year of courtship, Beau and Alsie married on April 8, 1972. They lived in the Bronx from 1972 to 1981 and then moved to Spring Valley, NY where they attended and supported Saint Joseph Church. They also went back and forth to their second home in Coral Springs, FL. Beau wanted his family to have the BEST in everything, especially experiences. He loved planning out vacations and seeing the world God created.
Beau overcame multiple health issues in his life especially after 2003. While Alsie, a career nurse, provided the majority of Beauclerc’s care, the family gratefully acknowledges Beauclerc’s caregivers especially Ghislaine and Marjorie Romain over the last few years.
Beau was the life of any party that he attended. He made everyone feel welcome and his contagious smile lit up the room. His sense of style was ahead of his time! Beauclerc had his satchel whenever he traveled as seen in some of his photos from the 1980s! Today it’s known as a man purse.
Beau would have a few quotes that he would tell his family and friends:
“Things done by halves are never done well!”
“Keep On Keeping On!”
“Walk Good!”
Beauclerc loved his beloved wife of 51 years, Alsie, his daughter, Judith (Patrick), his son Andrew (Juanita), and his grandchildren Mikhail, Nikhailia (Jahmaré), Xavier, Zoe, and Mackenzie (Friend as he lovingly called her). He is also survived by his brother Pat’s children Richard, Maria, Michael and Heather, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Beauclerc was reunited in Heaven with his parents, brother and sister, and niece, Valerie’s daughter Lorna, whom he walked down the aisle.
