Charles Bell was on born July 26, 1928 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the fourth of six children born to William and Helen Bell. Charles and his family ultimately moved to, and lived in Harlem, New York. Charles received his education in the New York City public school system and would later meet and marry Katie McDonald in 1953. That union brought forth three children, Allen, Ava and Mark Bell.Charles was employed by the Yosemite National Park where he worked as a cook. During this time, Charles received his cabaret license which allowed him to perform as a guitarist in various clubs throughout California.Charles was an endearing man, and through the years met and knew lots of people. We’re sure they all have a special memory about him. Charles had a special love for music, one that came from his musically inclined parents. He played the guitar and other instruments. He even taught his older son Allen to play the guitar as well. Our father was one who may have been distracted several times throughout his lifetime but he showed his love and concern in other ways. He was always patient, pleasant, and very protective of all his family members and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Charles was one who always faced life head on and that manifested itself when suddenly he was stricken with a stroke that left him paralyzed on his right side. He did what he could to adjust to his situation; and his zeal for life never left him. Charles was in such a condition until his body began to break down little by little until finally on August 14th his body could take no more.Charles was preceded in death by his siblings, Juanita, William Jr., Marvin, Frank and Frederick. Our father leaves behind his three children Allen, Ava and Mark. Five grandchildren; Raeshan, Mark Jr., Ahmed, Monique and Dionne; two great grandchildren, Daeshawn and Dylan. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Our father was dearly loved and will be terribly missed.
