Dorothy Szilagye of Orangeburg, NY, 92 years old, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026. Dorothy was born in the Bronx to the late Dorothy and Charles Abbott on October 8, 1933.
She worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an underwriter for 47 years, retiring in 1998. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, especially cruising.
Dorothy is survived by her sisters Anna Kelly of Middletown, NY and Joan Mezzone of Kent Lakes, NY. She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews and 16 grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Giordano of New City, NY and her niece, Patricia Monti of Congers, NY.
Dorothy cherished her time spent with family, especially gatherings for holidays and celebrations.
A Memorial Service will be held in the spring at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Pearl River, NY. Memorial donations can be made in her name to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
