Gaetana Ghersi

Gaetana (Quarticelli) Ghersi, 89, of New City, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Born in 1935 in Milan, Italy, Gaetana grew up surrounded by the deep traditions of Italian family life. She became a U.S. citizen in 1965 and proudly used her bilingual skills while working for Alitalia Airlines before devoting herself to her family as a loving homemaker. She was married to the late Iginio Ghersi, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion.

Gaetana lived in Glen Head, NY, and later in Deerfield Beach, FL, before settling in New City, NY, where she cherished being close to her family. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, filling every gathering with laughter and delicious meals. She also had a deep affection for animals and cared for them with the same kindness she showed everyone she met.

Beloved mother of Lawrence Ghersi (Conny), Laura Lasky (Steve), and Linda Puchall (Abraham); cherished grandmother of seven; and dear aunt of Rosa Cella.

Visiting Sunday, 3–7 p.m., at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. Funeral Mass Monday, 10:00 a.m., St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Nyack, NY. Interment to follow at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Flushing, NY.

Her love, warmth, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
