John Joseph Twomey

John Joseph Twomey, age 86, of Nanuet, New York (originally from Bronx, NY) passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2021. John was born in New York, New York, son of the late Mary (Riordan) and Denis Twomey. John attended Saint John’s Elementary School, Cardinal Hayes High School and Manhattan College.

In1955 John joined the US Army. He was stationed in Germany for much of his tour. He rose to the rank of Sergeant.

John became a New York City Transit Police Officer and retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant. He loved to travel, play golf and spend time with his family. He was an avid Yankee fan, a Jet fan and a secret Giant fan. John will be sorely missed by his family and friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Beatrice Twomey Wuebben. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Twomey Mallon (Patrick) and Nora Twomey Sweeney (Edward), 11 nieces and nephews and 32 great nieces and nephews who all cherish their time with him.

Private funeral services and burial were held December 27, 2021.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and residents who lovingly cared for John and made SunRise of New City home to him in his final years, and the doctors, nurses and supporting staff of Nyack Hospital who cared for John in his final days.
