John came from humble beginnings, born in the back of a fruit and vegetable store in Brooklyn, NY, in 1928. Due to his mother's death and his father's inability to care for six children, John was placed in the Angel Guardian Orphanage and remained there for some time until he was fostered by the Dinas, who permanently welcomed him into their family.
John joined the army at age 18 and served in Germany at the end of World War II. He was then transferred back to Fort Benning, GA, to attend Officers Candidate School. Commissioned as a second lieutenant, he was sent to Trieste, Italy, post-war. While there, he met Margaret (Peggy) Blum, who he married upon returning to the United States.
John was devoted to his family. He and Peggy raised four children, and their nephew, Vinny, also lived with them for a time. John developed a lifelong love of golf and was an avid reader with a curious mind. He loved to learn something from everyone he met and enjoyed lively conversations about the state of the world. He began a long and successful career in sales at 3M Corporation and the friends and acquaintances he met there still share wonderful stories and remember him fondly.
Sadly, Peggy passed away in 1989. John was fortunate to find love again and married Eileen, who has been his loving companion and constant support during their 35 years of marriage.
John was predeceased in death by his wife, Peggy, and his sister, Rose. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, his daughter, Cathi (Rich), sons, John, Tom (Stacey), and Jim (Maureen), nephew Vinny (Sue), his grandchildren Jesse (Cherry), Meghan (Grant), Catie, Tommy (Caroline), Kelly, Amanda, Samantha, and his great-grandchildren Mary, Elena, Jonathan, Conner, Grace, Maeve, and Kit.
