

Scaglione, Joseph, 87, a longtime resident of New City, passed away April 22, 2017 at Nyack Hospital, Nyack, NY. Son of the late Dominick and Rose Scaglione, he was born September 8, 1929 in Carolei Cosenza, Italy. He was five years old when he immigrated to America.
Joseph graduated DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, NY and attended City College, New York. He was a business owner in Westchester and Rockland County for many years. He was the former owner of Tanglewood Delicatessen, Yonkers, NY and Heathcote Delicatessen, Scarsdale, NY.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn Sicilia Scaglione; four daughters: Carol Scaglione of Hoboken, NJ, Donna Hoyt (Michael Hoyt) of Florida, NY, Jean Stangarone (Umberto Stangarone) of Basking Ridge, NJ and Joann Varsi of Greensboro, NC, sister, Mary Valentino of Nanuet, NY; seven grandchildren: Michael Hoyt (April), Joseph Hoyt, Dean and Alex Stangarone and Matthew, Caroline, and Stephen Varsi; and great granddaughter, Avery Hoyt. He was predeceased by his sister Teresa Fata.
Visitation will be at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26 at Church of St. Augustine, 140 Maple Avenue, New City, NY. Burial will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
