She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and as she would say her “cousins by the dozens”.
How do we possibly sum up a life so well lived and so loved onto a page? Peggy was devout, humble, kind, loving, gentle, firm, compassionate, determined, passionate, funny, tender, warm, cultured, adventurous, intelligent, adoring, clever, bright, wise, generous, benevolent, tender, charitable, thoughtful, faithful, committed, trustworthy, understanding, attentive, witty, comical, light hearted and beautiful!
Peggy was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She was the oldest of six children in a very proud Irish Catholic household. She started her devotion and faith journey at Little Flower Parish in Flatbush. She continued this journey throughout her life and exemplified Christianity through her gentle words, her forgiveness and compassion, her volunteerism, her devotion to our Blessed Mother, Mary, and her reverence for the Holy Eucharist.
Peggy was a third grade teacher for 25 years and had a profound impact on countless children’s lives. She taught with wisdom, kindness and grace.
Peggy loved to travel, she traveled the world with the love of her life. After his passing in February of 1994, it took some time but she continued this joy with her family and friends. Always on a new adventure! She spent many winters in sunny Vero Beach, Fl., a place that will forever hold the fondest of memories for her entire family.
Peggy’s door was always open and welcoming! Many a problem was solved with her over a cup of tea or glass of wine. She had many, many dear friends and made a true impact on their lives with her caring manner and devout faith.
Peggy and Barney were one the founding members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Peggy played a pivotal role in numerous ministries; she led a compassionate bereavement ministry, she taught religious education, she was a member of Bible study and a Eucharistic minister. She volunteered in our community by teaching English through One to One at Marydell Faith and Life Center in Nyack, she also helped out at Birthright, giving young mothers supplies, access to vital services and gentle counsel. Everything she did, she did with great humility and in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Peggy loved to cook, you would always find her in her kitchen cooking a meal to share with her family or to be delivered to someone in need. Many Saturdays, she would gather friends for dinner, driving them home and ensuring everyone had what they needed.
Peggy, our angel, your earthly journey is complete, and you leave behind a legacy of love that will be profoundly felt by all who had the honor of knowing such an extraordinary lady. May your gentle soul rest in peace, and may eternal rest be granted unto you.
