Maria Rendeiro

Maria Rendeiro (née Carvalho) of Bardonia, NY, 87 years old, passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a longtime resident of Lyndhurst, New Jersey and moved to Bardonia after she was widowed to live with her daughter and grandchildren.

Maria was born in Sapateira, Portugal on May 27, 1936 to Antonio and Lucelinda Carvalho and immigrated to the United States, in 1952, at the age of 16. She eventually married her husband Joe Rendeiro and had two daughters, Maria and Cindia.

She was a lifelong seamstress whose passion was sewing intricate wedding gowns. She eventually took part in crafting firefighter uniforms through Cairns and Brothers and proudly produced the costumes for the 1991 film Backdraft.

Maria enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, and taking care of her four grandchildren. Her greatest joys came from her family. She is survived by her daughters, Maria O’Shea and Cindia Baldisserotto and her grandchildren Shauna and Krysta O’Shea, and James and Jeanette Baldisserotto. She is also survived by her brother Carlos Carvalho, brother-in-law William Gallagher and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, her brother Antonio, her sister Felizarda, and sisters-in-law Betty and Marylane. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Maria’s life on Monday (10/30/23) from 4-8 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Catholic Burial will be held on Tuesday (10/31/23), 10 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, West Nyack, followed by interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Flowers will be accepted at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lupus Foundation of America or Lupus Research Alliance.
