Michael was born in 1951 to Charles and Dorothy Lettre in the Bronx, NY. Michael graduated from NYU and had many successful entrepreneurial careers. Immediately after college, Michael worked for Price Water House as an accountant. He later became a custom home builder in Rockland County, NY. After retiring from the building business, Michael became a mortgage broker with AnnieMac Mortgage Lenders. Michael also started a successful family business, Party Time Travel of Nanuet, NY. Michael met many people through his various careers and was loved by all. Michael was a little league coach with the West Nyack Little League for several years, was involved in politics and ran for public office. Michael was diagnosed in 2015 with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer (which only has a 16% 5-year survival rate). He defied all odds and was able to extend his life by 8 years through sheer determination, perseverance, courage, and a tenacity to win! While the treatment was a difficult combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and much suffering, Michael was able to enjoy several extended periods of remission. This enabled him to be present for so many important events in the lives of his family, including marriages, graduations, and the birth of his two grandchildren.Nothing brought him more joy and pride than his children and grandsons.
Michael was an amazing person who often put the needs of his family and friends above his own. He cared deeply about all people and took very seriously his mission to educate and assist others in a myriad of meaningful ways. He loved to travel and was an avid NY Jets football fan. Michael was a season ticket holder since 1985 where he tailgated and made many special memories with family and friends.
To know Michael was to love him, and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, church community and his AnnieMac work family. Michael will be remembered for his generous heart, kindness, patience, words of wisdom, his faith in Jesus and a smile that lit up the room.
Michael is survived by his children, Michael Lettre Jr., Jamie Lettre, Lynda (Jeremy)Lennon, and grandsons James and Anthony. His brother, Edward (Susan) Lettre, his sister Charlene (Edward) Canyes, his many nieces and nephews, as well as his longtime companion, Deborah Donnelly. Michael was predeceased by his ex-wife Linda Rodolico-Lettre, his parents Charles and Dorothy Lettre, and his beloved son, Vincent Lettre.
