Finally, Tricia is survived by her very dear Carlson and Vercammen cousins, and her Uncle Al Vercammen, husband of her late Aunt Carol.
Tricia was born in 1961, within a year after her family moved from Kingsbridge in the Bronx, to their new home on Grand Street in New City. Joining many other new and growing families on Grand Street, Tricia had scores of playmates, many of whom she kept as dear friends throughout her life. In addition to Grand Street, Tricia made lifelong friends at St. Augustine School in New City, and Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia. During her scholastic years she excelled on the swim and cheerleading teams.
It was during this time of her life that Tricia’s passion for travel was nurtured through trips with her mother, sisters, and friends. After graduating from Albertus in 1979 she began her career with Liberty Travel. Tricia possessed all the right elements for a stellar career in this field, with her flare for fun; finding excellent accommodation and destinations; and maneuvering through the tangle of reservations, flights, and mishaps for her clients. For decades Tricia regaled her family and friends with tales of adventure, delight, and blunders in her tropical travels. She seemed to be a magnet for fun in travels with her children and family.
Tricia especially enjoyed her tours in Ireland, discovering the land of her family roots, along with her mother and sisters. Back home in New City, where she built a home with Joe and raised her three children, Tricia never missed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Also dear to her heart was a lifetime of beach memories at Ocean Beach and all along the Jersey Shore, with parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, friends, Joe, and their children. In her later years Tricia found great pleasure in summer days in her North New City backyard pool, with her dogs Maddy and Bailey on her pool deck.
Tricia spent many of her weekends supporting her children on the soccer fields, basketball courts, baseball fields and football fields. She enjoyed discovering the beautiful beaches of Rhode Island, tasting New England seafood, and taking in the history and Irish culture of Boston with her children through their college years and beyond. Tricia’s greatest joy was watching her children grow their own families and adoring her grandchildren.
Tricia’s funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine Church in New City. She has the unique distinction of being baptized in this church, and receiving all her Catholic sacraments here, including her marriage and the baptisms of her three children. Tricia always found comfort in her spiritual connection to the St. Augustine School and Church community, and clergy. Patricia Mary Russell Genzardi has been part of the fabric of New City for almost 65 years and will be dearly missed by the many lives that she touched, through her laughter, stories, and hospitality.
A viewing will be held on Thursday March 5 from 9:00–11:00 AM at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A Mass will be celebrated after at 11:30 AM at St. Augustine Church in New City.
